Hand-knotted oriental and Persian rugs are washed by hand, never run through aggressive machine processes. We test dyes first, then wash with fiber-safe solutions and dry the rug under controlled conditions so wool and silk keep their softness and sheen.
Wool, cotton, jute, viscose and synthetic area rugs each need a different touch. We match the method to the fiber and the amount of soil, so high-traffic rugs come back bright without shrinkage, bleeding or stiff backing.
Damage does not mean the end of a rug. We rebuild holes, thin and worn pile, moth damage and split foundations by hand, matching wool weight and color so the repair blends into the surrounding weave.
Edges and ends take the most wear. We repair or replace fringe, re-secure unraveling selvedge and rebind sides so the rug stops fraying and lies flat again.
Pet urine soaks through the pile into the foundation, which is why surface cleaning never removes the smell. Full-immersion washing flushes the salts and bacteria out of the rug so the odor is gone, not masked.
